A 7-year old Filipino boy named Luc Cagadoc, whose family moved to Canada in 1999, has been disciplined by a lunch monitor at Ecole Lalande in Roxboro, Quebec for eating habits labeled "yucky and disgusting."
A quotable quote from the principal Normand Bergeron:"Madame, you are in Canada. Here in Canada you should eat the way Canadians eat. If your son eats like a pig he has to go to another table because this is the way we do it and how we're going to do it every time."
How insular and ignorant are you?
"I don't necessarily want students to eat with one hand or with only one instrument, I want them to eat intelligently at the table. I want them to eat correctly with respect for others who are eating with them. That's all I ask. Personally, I don't have any problems with it, but it is not the way you see people eat every day. I have never seen somebody eat with a spoon and a fork at the same time."
intelligent eating. (duh!) How could someone say that we, Filipinos, eat like a pig? Just because we are in a third world country doesn't mean that we have to emulate you. Oh come on!
I thought Canada is a free country, that they even encourage migration from other cultures (to save their race from extinction). But then afterwards, force these kids to follow their culture and grow as Canadians. Hey, you can't bury old traditions away...

I've seen this topic in several blogs...dammit, we don't eat like pigs. Pigs don't use spoon and fork, hehe.
Anyway, the principal's been getting a lot of flak lately not just from us Pinoys but also from chopstricks- and knife and fork-using people, so apparently the principal's alone in being ignorant.
Like cyberpunk said, this one's in several blogs but thank goodness, I'm not one of them. Hahaha!
I love to eat with hands and I don't care. I love to eat Philippine balut eggs even though Fear Factor's Joe Rogan says that it is "savage" to eat it. Hahaha!
Tatak pinoy yan kahit saan ka man mapunta.
